My sincere thanks to the experts from different domains who contributed their time and valuable inputs and perspectives on different aspects of this humungous subject of bringing about lifestyle changes in India. The nuanced deliberations helped broaden and deepen my understanding of this multi-faceted subject, and their contributions facilitated the framing of the report, “LiFE and its Trajectories”.

The thought-provoking panel discussions urged deliberate action through partnership and transdisciplinary action. The expert panelists stressed the importance of a community-based approach to environmental conservation and protection of the traditional wisdom of tribal communities as a crucial prerequisite for strengthening community resilience. This, along with empowering consumers with a realistic understanding of the impact of their lifestyle choices and fostering behavioural changes for adapting/mitigating climate change is needed for the successful implementation of national and state policies.

Stay tuned for session 6 of 7 on sustainable development of communities!

Yesterday, we had an invigorating session with our expert panelists where we discussed sustainable lifestyles and the delicate interplay of socioeconomic and ecological boundaries. The depth and breadth of this complex and nuanced problem were considered. The importance of strengthening community resilience, which is a crucial prerequisite for the successful implementation of national and state policies, was stressed. The lack of country-level indices to measure the impacts of specific behaviours was highlighted. The session ended on considerations around protecting the sanctity of tribal communities and their traditional wisdom while engaging them as experts in sustainable practices. The panelists and participants came away feeling overwhelmed but inspired to take deliberate action through partnership and transdisciplinary action. Yet again, what was amply clear was the importance of empowering consumers with a realistic understanding of the impact of their lifestyle choices.

Join us on May 20 at 6 pm to be with four diverse panelists with rich experience in working with different communities.
