We are excited to present a comprehensive national-level analytical report on Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) and its Trajectories. This report, developed by Dr. Anandi Subramanian, was created with the support of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) in India.

Based on primary and secondary research, and expert stakeholder consultations, this report recommends a guiding framework for designing the LiFE monitoring framework across six key sectors:

  1. Food and Agriculture

  2. Nature and biodiversity

  3. Mobility

  4. Housing and Building Industry

  5. Textiles and Fashion Industry

  6. Tourism/leisure

It includes recommended indicators for each sector, designed at four levels (Institutional, Economic, Environmental and Social).

My sincere thanks to the experts from different domains who contributed their time and valuable inputs and perspectives on different aspects of this humungous subject of bringing about lifestyle changes in India. The nuanced deliberations helped broaden and deepen my understanding of this multi-faceted subject, and their contributions facilitated the framing of the report, “LiFE and its Trajectories”.

The thought-provoking panel discussions urged deliberate action through partnership and transdisciplinary action. The expert panelists stressed the importance of a community-based approach to environmental conservation and protection of the traditional wisdom of tribal communities as a crucial prerequisite for strengthening community resilience. This, along with empowering consumers with a realistic understanding of the impact of their lifestyle choices and fostering behavioural changes for adapting/mitigating climate change is needed for the successful implementation of national and state policies.
